Our reclaimed floating wood wall blocks are the perfect art decor pieces to add flair to your small crafts and collectibles. These handcrafted pieces are made from authentic reclaimed hand hewn barn beams salvaged in Pennsylvania, Maryland and New York dating back to as early as the mid 1700's!

Hand Hewn beams are highly sought after and are very unique. We like to refer to them as snowflakes because like snowflakes, no two are the same. Each and every pioneer and craftsman had their own style of hewing a log. These unique characteristics help tell the story of each piece we salvage.

What's Included?
These are sold in a set of 3 and include the hardware to mount so they are floating.

Wood Origin
These handcrafted pieces are made from authentic reclaimed wood salvaged from historic barns throughout the Eastern United States dating from the 1700's to the early 1900's. Popular locations include Pennsylvania, New York, Maryland, Ohio and Kentucky.

Dimensions
The wood wall blocks are available in 3", 4" and 5" depths and will be anywhere from about 5-1/2" to 8" in width and height. Please remember no two are the same so we will do our absolute best to include a matching set.

Characteristics
Because these are from hand hewn beams, they were originally connected without the use of nails. This means they used mortise and tenon joinery. Some pieces may have evidence of these special traits.

The first settlers in America used materials on hand to construct buildings. Today, individuals love to make use of this reclaimed wood when building or remodeling a residence or office. The history of the piece adds to the ambiance of the area. The wood used in this manner comes from barns, stables, mills, and more, and many pieces are hundreds of years old. What makes this wood truly unique and highly coveted?

Reclaimed hand-hewn lumber pieces are truly one of a kind. The different species underwent decades of weathering and wear to obtain their current appearance. As a result, each piece is unique, and the wood varies by where it was first obtained. The settlers never discriminated when it came to the wood used for the structure, so a person could find many varieties of reclaimed wood all coming from the same region.

Additionally, reclaimed wood typically offers more variations that are no longer seen in wood species. For instance, as trees in the past were allowed to grow to their full height, the rings observed in this timber tend to be wider than seen in newer pieces. These pieces often have more knots and other markings that make the piece unique and give it charm.

If a person is fortunate enough to know where the wood came from, the piece becomes an interesting topic of conversation. When someone asks about the hand-hewn lumber, the owner can not only explain what it is but also provide information on where it came from and what makes it special. That doesn’t happen with pieces that are mass produced today.

    Beth Huckaby
  • "Love love love these shelves! They looks so great, hold a lot of weight, and are very easy to mount on the wall. The simple brackets look very nice and make it really easy to set up and get into the wall. I got an extra set of brackets to let the long shelves hold a bit more weight and I'm glad I did! Looks good too :) Love it! Get them!"
