Modern Timber Craft offers authentic reclaimed wood flooring in both solid and engineered options, including White Oak, Red Oak, Hickory, Yellow Pine, and reclaimed mixed hardwoods. Our solid reclaimed hardwood flooring is milled from historic timbers sourced from barns and other structures dating from the late 1700s through the early 1900s, while select engineered styles combine a real reclaimed wood wear layer with a stable multi-ply core.

Natural variation in grain, knots, saw marks, checking, color, and other characteristics gives every floor its own distinct appearance. Because no two are the same, each installation carries the character and history of the original wood.

How much flooring should I order?

We highly recommend ordering at least 10% more square feet of flooring than you need to account for cutoffs and waste. Most floor manufacturers recommend that you order more flooring than the actual space, so this is normal. A similar scenario is if you were ordering tile for your floor. In most cases, the tiles won’t fit perfectly without being cut so the same concept applies here as well.

When it comes to authentic reclaimed barn wood flooring, it’s a good idea to order even more than the recommended 10%. Not only do you have to account for cutoffs and waste, but you also need to account for natural wood defects that may need to be cut out as well.

What’s the difference between solid reclaimed wood flooring and reclaimed engineered wood flooring?

Solid reclaimed wood flooring is milled from authentic reclaimed timbers and boards sourced from historic barns and other structures. The flooring is solid wood through its full thickness and is available in species including White Oak, Red Oak, Hickory, Yellow Pine, and mixed Oak.

Reclaimed engineered wood flooring uses an authentic reclaimed wood wear layer bonded to a stable multi-ply core. This preserves the grain, color variation, saw marks, and other characteristics of reclaimed wood while using an engineered construction beneath the surface.

Both options feature authentic reclaimed wood. The primary difference is their construction: solid flooring is reclaimed wood throughout, while engineered flooring combines a reclaimed wood surface with a multi-ply core.

Does solid reclaimed wood flooring need to be finished?

Our solid reclaimed wood flooring is supplied unfinished and ready to finish. After installation, we recommend applying a protective finish or sealant to help protect the wood from normal wear while achieving the appearance you want. Clear and low-sheen finishes are available for projects where you want to preserve the natural color and character of the reclaimed wood as closely as possible.

How is reclaimed wood flooring installed?

Reclaimed wood flooring installation depends on the flooring construction, subfloor, and project conditions. Our solid reclaimed flooring features tongue-and-groove construction and can typically be installed using nail, staple, or appropriate adhesive methods. Because reclaimed flooring can include natural variation and surface character, we recommend working with an experienced flooring installer and confirming the appropriate installation method for your project before ordering.

What is the typical lead time on a flooring order?

Lead time on the SOLID WOOD flooring will depend on the total square footage of the order and process that we are currently in as part of the preparation process (see above). As a safe time frame, we always recommend planning for a 6 week
lead time + shipping time to you. Please contact us directly for current status’ and lead time on particular species and sizes.
Lead time on the engineered flooring can be as little as 1 week depending on availability.

Our authentic reclaimed wood flooring boards are made to last a lifetime, and longer. There will be variable numbers of unique grain variations, knots, and other characteristics. Keep in mind, these are authentic reclaimed pieces of wood so no two are the same.
